Preventing, Avoiding and Mitigating Environmental Impacts of Fishing Gear and Associated Marine Litter
The three solutions (PREVENT, AVOID, MITIGATE) will be tested, validated and demonstrated in real conditions in Atlantic and Mediterranean countries
Every year, tons of fishing gear are discarded to the ocean globally, inflicting severe threats to marine habitats and wildlife while causing economic damage to the fishing sector. The timely tracking and recovery of lost fishing gear can minimize this risk, help preserve our oceans and boost the fishing sector.
NETTAG+ will build on the synergies developed between fishers and scientists in the previous NetTag project and will provide the fisheries industry with a package of three smart and environmental-friendly solutions to reduce the Detection and Removal of Abandoned, Lost or otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) and the negative impacts of fishing gear.
ERINN Innovation leads the exploitation of the solutions from NETTAG+ and the transfer of the results and knowledge to key stakeholders in fisheries. ERINN Innovation also participates in dissemination and communication activities.
