Supporting the realisation of a carbon-neutral, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable country
Connecting Ireland's peatlands, people and policies
Ireland has a high proportion of Europe’s remaining peatlands, including a variety of raised and blanket bogs, fens and heath. Peatlands are wetland ecosystems in which waterlogged conditions prevent plant material from fully decomposing.
A 7-year LIFE Integrated Project, Peatlands and People collaborates locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to generate and share solutions and knowledge for a better future.
The project partners will prepare, implement and monitor the impact of the three pillars and promote behaviour in support of Ireland’s Climate Action Plan. The restored and rehabilitated peatlands are expected to store more carbon, protect biodiversity, improve water quality and support other benefits, while the Accelerator and Discovery Visitor Experience aim to support economic growth and create space for social action.
ERINN Innovation lead the activities under the Just Transition Accelerator, assisting with the project management and managing the project communications.
